David Maddison
Operations Support Manager, Wickes
David loves taking calculated risks, above and below water. He resisted pressure to enter university and opted to make a career with Wickes. Such was his enthusiasm, David's managerial skills were spotted while he was sweeping floors in Wickes! 'One of the store managers suggested that I had what it takes to build a career with Wickes. It was nice to be recognised even though I was just sweeping up and stacking shelves doing a weekend job.'
David immediately saw this was a company that could change his life. The opportunities came through thick and fast. From a basic warehouse supervisory role, David progressed to merchandising supervisor before transferring to beome deputy manager. Knowing this is no ordinary training scheme, David says, 'I wanted to go as far as I could as quickly as I could.' He's taken posts all over the country, from Yorkshire down to Brighton.
Now with his career right on track, the rewards have allowed him to indulge his other passion - scuba diving. When not working, David travels to the most exotic locations in the world, seeing incredible sites below the ocean. Refreshed, he returns to the new challenges and family atmosphere of Wickes. For David, not going to university was one risk well worth taking.
